What IP Address Details Include
When you look up an IP address on MyIPNow, you get the following information:
- Geographic location — country, region, city, and approximate coordinates
- ISP / Organisation — the internet service provider or company that owns the IP block
- ASN — Autonomous System Number and routing information
- Hostname — reverse DNS (PTR) record if available
- IP type — residential, datacenter, VPN, proxy, or Tor exit node
- Blacklist status — whether the IP appears on spam or abuse blacklists
- WHOIS data — registration details from the regional internet registry
How IP Geolocation Works
IP geolocation maps an IP address to a physical location based on data from internet registries, ISP records, and network routing information. It is typically accurate to the city or region level. Accuracy varies — ISPs often register IP blocks under a central office address rather than the subscriber's actual location.
For most IPs, geolocation correctly identifies the country and city. However, mobile IPs, VPN exit nodes, and large corporate networks may show a location different from where the device actually is.
IPv4 vs IPv6 Lookups
MyIPNow supports lookups for both IPv4 addresses (e.g. 8.8.8.8) and IPv6 addresses (e.g. 2001:4860:4860::8888). IPv6 geolocation data is less dense than IPv4 but improves as adoption increases.
