A hacked Wi-Fi network usually shows several noticeable warning signs. Unexplained slow speeds are common, since unauthorized devices draw bandwidth away from your own usage. Checking your router's connected devices list and finding unfamiliar device names or an unexpectedly high device count is one of the clearest indicators of an intrusion. Changed router settings you did not make yourself, such as a different Wi-Fi name, altered DNS settings, or a login password that suddenly stops working, suggest someone gained access to the admin panel. You might also notice frequent unexpected password prompts, strange pop ups, or being redirected to unfamiliar websites while browsing. If you spot these signs, reset your router to factory settings, update its firmware, and set a new strong password immediately using WPA2 or WPA3 encryption.
