Quad9's 9.9.9.9 is a nonprofit DNS service built primarily around security, automatically blocking domains known to host malware, phishing, and other threats. It's reliable and performs reasonably well for everyday browsing, but it wasn't designed or optimized specifically for gaming performance the way some commercial DNS providers market themselves. Because DNS is only used briefly during the initial connection to look up a server's IP address, its impact on in-game latency is minimal regardless of which provider you choose. Your actual gaming ping depends far more on your ISP's network path and physical distance to game servers. If security and threat blocking matter to you, 9.9.9.9 is a solid choice. If raw gaming speed is your only concern, test a few providers with a ping test to see which performs best on your connection.
